LED lighting the way
We recently spoke to Wayne Mitchell from Living Energy Design on our search for great energy saving solutions. What we discovered was that when it came to energy saving, Living Energy Design are light years ahead. From large scale jobs for Rio Tinto to domestic applications in the suburbs, Living Energy Design are lighting the way.
Wayne has over 25 years experience in the lighting industry, so it comes as no surprise that he is an expert in his field. His unbridled passion for energy saving solutions is evident as he introduces us to the new era of lighting, LED.
LED (light emitting diodes) has come a long way in terms of technology over recent years and LED lighting solutions just so happen to be Living Energy Design’s signature product. LED lighting can fulfil most lighting applications from domestic and commercial right through to industrial use. On average, LED lighting uses 60-70% less power than standard lighting while still producing the same amount of light. For instance a 120 watt LED globe can produce the same amount of light as a standard 400 watt globe. A 10 watt LED down light can provide the same amount of light as a standard 50 watt down light. Standard conventional kitchen lighting can use anywhere from 150-300 watts of energy whilst the same amount of light can be produced by either a 12, 28 or 42 watt LED light.
In the past there have been a range of concerns with LED lighting. Wayne assures us that not only has LED lighting caught up with conventional lighting solutions but in many cases has superseded standard lighting technology. LED lights are now able to be dimmed, come in a variety of designs and effects, produce a cleaner light than standard lighting, and of course give you an energy saving of up to 70% in comparison to conventional lighting.
Recently Living Energy Design helped a customer with a three bedroom home reduce energy use from his lighting capacity from over 1700 watts to 470 watts using LED lighting. Over time this will give that customer terrific savings on both energy use and of course their electricity bill.
LED lights are fantastic as stand-alone energy saving solutions and also work extremely well alongside other energy saving devices such as solar installations. Obviously the less power your lighting setup uses, the more you will get out of your solar power. And because they require far less energy to run, LED lights are perfect for low energy output applications such as caravans and boats where the power is supplied by a generator.
LED lights do not emit ultra violet rays nor do they contain any mercury which make them the perfect light source for objects that are sensitive to natural light.
Over the next couple of years incandescent lights will be phased out making LED lighting the preferred and most practical lighting solution. The team at Living Energy Design will be there every step of the way to help ensure this is a smooth transition for their customers.
With plenty of other ways to save energy, Living Energy Design see themselves as a complete green package offering energy saving solutions from lighting to energy efficient heating and much more.
