A quick fix for the Tasmanian winter
Currently, fixed fan heaters are Tasmania's most popular fixed heating source. This is hardly surprising because they are extremely cost efficient. Although their running costs are higher than a heat pump (even though still cheaper than other energy sources), fixed fan heaters are considerably cheaper to buy and cost far less to install.
A fixed fan heater is any heater that is permanently installed on a wall with a fan that forces air through a heated element into your living space. It's that simple. No matter how they look, that is the basic principle.

Types of fixed fan heaters
Some fixed fan heaters have radiators that also comprise a fan heater component. The industry calls them radiant/convection models.
For those of us who like a bit of cosy ambience there are even models that are designed to look like woodheaters, open fires and coal grates.
Over the past few years the designs of these heaters have become less 'boxy', with quite a few very handsome minimalist works of art on the market.
One very handy option that you have with some fixed fan heaters is a back vent kit. This allows you to install the heater in one room and duct the heat into an adjacent room, so you can warm two rooms for the cost of one heater.
