The colour of deception
You can make a small sun room look bigger and airier through the use of cool colours like blues and greens. You can even change the apparent shape of a room by painting a feature wall with a bright vibrant colour and making the other walls white or neutral. Add some matching colour in the form of drapes, blinds or a rug. Why not make your own covers for accent cushions? This allows you to rotate designs and colours whenever the mood takes you. Don’t use heavy fabrics for your furnishings. Lighter cloths are more affordable and easier to work with.

Open things up
Create some space by simplifying what you have in the room. Avoid large, bulky furniture. Choose chairs with low backs and open legs. Consider glass coffee table tops instead of solid wood ones and think about a two-seater sofa instead of a full sized one. Perhaps you could save even more room by creating a window seat instead.
A well placed blind or awning will also help to make the room more comfortable on warm days. Hard shiny floors look and feel cooler underfoot than soft floors and you won’t have to worry about spilling your cold drink on the carpet!

Work with textures
Combining different textures in a small room will make it more appealing as well as adding dimension and depth. Coarse rugs on smooth floors, soft plants alongside glass windows and bringing the outdoors indoors are just some of the ways you can make textures work for you. Experiment. Move things around. Be creative.

Make it homely
When you’re done, don’t forget to add some books, magazines, family photos and artworks. They will make your sun room a welcoming haven in which to chill out on a lazy afternoon.
